CLCV members to Jerry Brown - Don't trade away CEQA for budget votes!

Last week CLCV asked our members to email Governor Brown to urge him not to trade the environmental protections of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) for budget votes. We had heard that a group of Republicans were holding the budget hostage and asking for the gutting of CEQA as the ransom.Read more

Governor Jerry Brown Appoints John Laird to Natural Resources Agency

As one of his first actions, Governor Jerry Brown has appointed the Honorable John Laird as California Secretary for Natural Resources. This is a superb decision.

A longtime environmental champion, John Laird served with distinction for six years as an Assemblyman representing the central coast counties of Santa Cruz and Monterey. During this period, John received a 100% score from both the California League of Conservation Voters and Sierra Club California for his votes on environmental issues.Read more

Voters will now have at least three chances to watch the gubernatorial candidates go head to head on the issues before the Nov. 2 election.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown today said he has accepted an invitation to debate Republican rival Meg Whitman on Oct. 2. The debate, sponsored by the Fresno Bee and Spanish-language network Univisión, will be held at California State University, Fresno, at 11 a.m. and broadcast on Univisión at 4 p.m. that day. Whitman had already agreed to participate.Read more
