So true.  But you forgot about Jerry Brown.  Here's a politician that rejected riding in the Governor's limo (perviously owned by J. Edgar Hoover!) and living in the suburban Governor's mansion back when he was first Governor in the late 70s. Instead he opted for a Plymouth that he drove himself and an apartment a few blocks from the capitol.  This is a person for the people.

And so far Jerry's only spent about $500,000 on his bid for Governor.  He says he plans to run a frugal campaign, just like how he'll run the state.  Frugal doesn't sound too bad to me: conserving money (in the right places, like cutting prison spending), conserving energy, conserving the environment.

Interesting, but is this just to get Jerry to start talking about progressive issues? If Schurman is a serious candidate, he better have serious money to back him up. While Jerry isn't pouring in the personal wealth like his Republican opponets, he still has lots of money coming in from the progressive camp.

What exactly happened to Tom Campbell?

Ok, so I've "only" been following California politics (well, politics in general) for the last 8 years. That being said, I'm hoping that someone out there can help explain what happened to Tom Campbell.

If you look at his first couple of years in Congress, his voting record on the environment is impeccable - 100% in LCV's 1989 and 1990 Scorecards. Most Democrats didn't even come close to touching him! But as the years progress, his scores regress with an all-time low of 37% in 2000.Read more
